Writing can be like finding a lighthouse in a storm. The storm is still there, but shedding some light on the issue can revive hope and a sense of direction.   Themed Prose & Poetry
"Horizon" suggests a wide range of vision. That's why I chose it as the name for my pages that explore strong emotional issues using prose, poetry and graphics.

Theme - Size Issues

I struggle with size issues, as do many people.  Size, weight and eating issues are complex, and are described a number of ways, including:

a behavioral disorder; a physical disease; a chemical addiction;the result of a food allergy; an ineffective reaction to stress; self-medication for depression; a warped cultural/societal view; a sin; or some or all of the above.

However I define it, my unspoken thoughts about the issue must change in order for me to overcome this struggle.

Deep down, I have feared that I'm not good enough as I am; and have erroneously thought that food could make it better. Just what is "good enough"? Is it based on comparison with others? Not only is "good enough" an unreasonable standard to set for myself, it is one that defies definition.

This page is a work in progress, an attempt to isolate the painful feelings that revolve around disordered eating, and try to expose the faulty logic that often accompanies it. And while I don't believe that dwelling in sadness is an answer, it is often a starting point towards a healthier outlook, which must be nurtured with hope from within and support from without.

Please remember that you are good enough and that there is always hope.  Sandy

This poem is an Acrostic: a composition, usually in verse, in which sets of letters (as the initial or final letters of the lines), taken in order, form a word or phrase.

Although I don't personally struggle with Bulemia, it seems to epitomize the same "vicious cycle" that characterizes other eating disorders.
